Adult Education at Temple Ohev Sholom

Join us for one of the many Adult Education Classes scheduled for 2018-19. Information below:

Hershey Study is a once-a-month class taught on Thursday evenings at a congregant’s home in Hershey or Hummelstown. The class is an open forum, and the wine and cheese always helps to provide for a lively discussion.  Our curriculum this year is 12 Major World Religions, using the book by Jason Boyett. Our first class is on September 27th.

PEP is the Parallel Education Course taught once-a-month on Sunday mornings. This year we’re continuing to learn Yiddish! We’ll have a fun year keeping the “mamma loshen” alive through Leo Rosten’s The Joys of Yiddish. Our first class is on September 23rd. Coffee and refreshments are provided.

Rabbi Kessler’s Book Review is our monthly book club. We read the selection of the month and then join together for an open discussion. Coffee and refreshments are provided. Our first class is on September 30th.

Lunch-n-Learn is a monthly “drop-in” discussion on the 2ndWednesday of the month at 12 noon in the Lehrman Chapel. Bring your lunch…we provide coffee and a discussion. Our curriculum this year is Nine Essential Things I’ve learned About Life

Using the book by Harold S. Kushner (the author of When Bad Things Happen to Good People), we will learn about God, forgiveness, doubt, anger, and feeling better about ourselves.

Our Adult B’nai Mitzvah Class continues this fall. A two-year program, Adult B’nai Mitzvah is a once a month class, culminating in the Adult B’nai Mitzvah in 2019.  Our next class will begin studies in September 2019.

Basic Judaism classes, for those interested in converting to Judaism, or just want to learn more about Judaism, take place at various Sunday mornings during the year.

Sisterhood’s Soup, Study, & the Rabbi Too! will take place 3 times this coming year, following a 6 PM Shabbat Service. See the temple calendar for more information.
